Induction motors

Electric Car Motors What kinds of electric car motors are the most popular? There are a lot of electric motors out there, but just a few make up the majority of the motors being used in electric cars: We’ll talk about the pros and cons of each of these three types here. When people choose a motor for their car, they’re balancing factors like: The DC motors usually cost less than AC motors, and you can find series wound DC traction motors in forklift salvage yards. DC motors are often easier to find locally than AC motors.

Synchronous Motors

Motors used in HVAC such as the condensing fan motors or blower fan motors sometimes need help to get moving and to stay running at a steady pace, with no heavy up and down spikes. Not all motors will have a start or run capacitor some can start and run by themselves. Capacitors in HVAC can be separate or can be in a single package.

The Dual Round Capacitors are simply the way engineers are trying to save on space and cost. They could have put two capacitors in a unit but combined them in a single package.

As @Asmyldof stated, the motor has no concept of hot or neutral, so the polarity of the AC connections is not important. Connect one of them to hot, and one of them to neutral. The motor will turn the same direction even if you reverse these connections.

By supplying Volt AC power, inverters allow you to use things such as TVs, other home entertainment equipment, computers, printers, microwaves, and power tools when away from shore power and without using a generator. They can enable you to use AC entertainment equipment instead of buying 12 volt or battery powered equipment, which is more costly.

Also, generally AC power tools are not only less expensive but also more powerful than battery powered tools. Choosing the right size inverter depends on many factors, but it’s generally better to get one too big than “just right” or too small. Assuming you don’t want to stay tethered to the dock, your choice between a generator or an inverter depends on your power requirements underway. Typically today, many boaters have both a generator and inverter aboard.

They complement each other nicely. Generators produce large quantities of continuous power, ideal for running air conditioners, large freezers, and other high-load, long-duration applications. They also can charge the ship’s batteries through a marine rated AC battery charger. See the section Battery Charger.

The downside is that generators require fuel, an exhaust system and maintenance of both the generator’s engine and the generator itself, which its engine powers. Some generators are run by the boat’s propulsion engine, but most are attached to and run by a separate dedicated engine.

That would be the equivalent of applying volt to v windings so clearly the motor would fail. Of Couse all 6 motor windings must be accessible. As stated above, you can take a v, 3 phase star connected motor and run it as a v , three phase delta connected motor. Going back to basics it is the current driven by the voltage that creates the flux. The flux density dependent on many things is a function of the current and voltage.

The start connection commands a series of connections up to its winding. If the motor has a switch on the rotor with a pair of connections that are closed when the motor is not running, take one wire and put it on the start cap, and then connect the cap to that contact.

Most people ask if I can explain the RV electrical system in simple to understand terms. The electrical system in your RV can seem complex and confusing until you have a basic understanding of how it works. Your RV actually has three separate electrical systems. We are primarily concerned with the volt DC and volt AC coach systems.

The majority of campgrounds you go to will provide you with an external volt electric source to plug into. Your RV has a heavy-duty power cord that is normally about 25 feet long. Depending on the type of RV you have, or purchase, it will either be a 30 Amp or 50 Amp system. When you plug into the proper campground electrical source it will supply power throughout your RV. You must have a Volt AC power source if you are going to use the microwave, roof air conditioner, the refrigerator in the electric mode and the Volt electrical outlets.

For the most part everything else in the camper works off of volt DC power. When you are plugged in at the campground a portion of the volt AC current is converted to volt DC current for the items in the RV that work off of 12 volts.

It’s probably simpler for you to go to a salvage yard and get a $5 1/4HP blower motor with the start capacitor and everything pre-wired onto it; that will have only a .

I’d like to hook an AC motor straight to the rear differential. The answers I’ve found said that it would be like taking off in 4th gear all the time, this is true for an average vehicle with about 3. So my questions are From what I heard AC motors have less low rpm torque but greater range of rpm’s up to 10, so it might help my not being able to shift situation. Would it be better to have the motor a little forward more with a drive line to the differential?

Hi, Mike – You must be lost, darlin’; Allow me to point you in the right direction: You’re looking for the EV Discussion List , where you can chat with extremely smart, gifted – not to mention quite handsome – experienced electric car converters about torque, gear ratio, drag coefficient, and cathode chemistry to your heart’s content. Your question s are bound to put the cayenne in somebody’s cocoa over there. If you can’t find a satisfactory map, however, it may be because you’re in uncharted territory.

Sometimes you gotta strap on them Nikes and just DO it. What’s the worst that could happen? Remember, the lousiest running EV will carry your butt further without petrol than the finest theoretical construct; Regards,.

How to Build a DC Motor Circuit

Induction motors by Chris Woodford. Do you know how electric motors work? The answer is probably yes and no! Although many of us have learned how a basic motor works, from simple science books and web pages such as this, many of the motors we use everyday—in everything from factory machines to electric trains—don’t actually work that way at all.

There are induction start-induction run motors, capacitor start-induction run motors, and capacitor start-capacitor run motors. Each of these AC motors is different, but they’re all the same in one major way: They all consist of one or more “Run” windings and one or more “Start” windings.

You are corresponding with Electric Doctor! Did you purchase this motor with the capacitor not installed in this unit? What is the voltage you plan on using with the motor, v or v? Again, thank you for asking your question on Joseph – aka Electric Doctor: I plan to run it on if I can. I bought the motor from Surplus Center. I believe it was a take off from some piece of equipment. They do that quite a bit.

They just threw a compatible capacitor in with the motor along with a very crude generic? The capacitor is not attached to the motor it’s just loose in the box. I was going to band it right to the top of the motor if I got it working but I wasn’t sure if it would have to be insulated from the motor or if it could be mounted right to it without insulating it.

Thank you for asking your question on Just Answer Electrical. If your motor is , then you cannot change it to v. Your only options are to hook it up for the voltages you see on the motor name plate. Now can you tell me if the wires are labeled? If so what are the labels? Also is this a three phase or single phase motor?

This method energizes a portion of the winding initially, and then after a couple of seconds, will connect the complete winding of the motor for continuous operation. Most Baldor motor repair and service facilities throughout the country are experts in the Wye Start/Delta Run motor.

An Easy to Build and Operate Induction Generator Believe it or not, nearly everyone you know has at least one induction generator and probably more That’s right! You say that is impossible Within every home there are motors that can be operated as generators.

How to hook up an electric motor start or run capacitor: This article gives electric motor start-run capacitor installation & wiring instructions for electric motor capacitors designed to start & run an electric motor such as an AC compressor, heat pump compressor or a fan motor, and how to wire up a hard-starting air conditioner compressor motor, fan motor, to get an air conditioner, heat.

Tweet Single phase motors are very widely used in home, offices, workshops etc. In addition to this, single phase motors are reliable, cheap in cost, simple in construction and easy to repair. Single phase electric motors can be classified as: Single phase induction motor Split phase, Capacitor and shaded pole etc Single phase synchronous motor This article explains the basic construction and working of single phase induction motor.

Single phase Induction motor Construction of a single phase induction motor is similar to the construction of three phase induction motor having squirrel cage rotor, except that the stator is wound for single phase supply. Stator is also provided with a ‘starting winding’ which is used only for starting purpose. This can be understood from the schematic of single phase induction motor at the left.

Working principle of single phase induction motor When the stator of a single phase motor is fed with single phase supply, it produces alternating flux in the stator winding. This induced current in the rotor will also produce alternating flux. Even after both alternating fluxes are set up, the motor fails to start the reason is explained below. However, if the rotor is given a initial start by external force in either direction, then motor accelerates to its final speed and keeps running with its rated speed.

This behavior of a single phase motor can be explained by double-field revolving theory.

How to Hook Up an RV Generator

This saves space and money. One large VFD also produces less heat than multiple smaller units, further simplifying enclosure design and saving energy. In terms of the motors and connected loads, the footprint can also often be reduced. For example, it may be possible to fit multiple small fans of a smaller size into a confined duct space as opposed to one large fan.

If there is not a manual with the motor, look for a hook up schematic somewhere on the motor. The schematic may be on the exterior of the motor or possibly under an inspection plate or cover of the motor.

This is one of the best books Kristen Ashley has ever written! And I say that from the perspective of someone who has read, loved, and reviewed over 40 Kristen Ashley books. But this one just hit all the right marks. It was a perfectly balanced and beautifully written romance with heat, heart, and happiness. I can’t recommend it highly enough! This was Vintage KA gold! KA is known for her rather lengthly books but I read this in one non-stop stilling.

Before that though the fan would never come on no matter how hot the coolant temp got. So what I would like to do is hard wire a switch to the leads on the fan. Its a 91 Escort Pony 1.

connect all your green grounding wires together. connect the white neutral wire from the cord to the white wire coming from the motor. take your blue wire and connect that to one side of the capacitor. take your black wire and connect that to the other side of the capacitor and the black wire from the cord.

Ever asked yourself, how do I change a compressor in an air conditioner? Or how hard is replacing a compressor? This is a very good questions so pay attention they will be answered for you right here step by step. Changing a compressor can be a lot of fun, it will call upon all your mechanical skills from brazing and piping to electrical and wiring. Whenever you change a compressor you should change the contactor and the capacitor with it and always clear your metering device when the system is open and void.

So as always the first step whenever doing a refrigeration repair, is to recover all the Freon out of the system. Hook up your digital gauges, recovery tank and recovery machine to the air conditioner. Now make sure all your ports, nobs and dials are open so refrigerant starts flowing into the recovery tank.

Turn on your recovery machine and let it pull all the Freon out until your suction pressure is down to 0 psi. Now remove the lid from the air conditioner Note: To do this you will have to cut or remove the wires going to the condenser motor. Now pull off the 3 wires going to the compressor C R S from the compressor and from the contactor and capacitor, then throw the wires away you will not be re-using them.

Turn on your oxygen acetylene torch and heat up both suction line and discharge line at the closest joint to compressor and remove both copper lines. Ok, your compressor is free to be lifted out and removed.
